Kimberley’s Travels rayon batik designs are created in Bali, Indonesia.
We create a design and have craftsmen hand build copper stamps. Each hand-batiked piece of fabric is created by blocking out selected areas of the cloth by brushing or stamping hot wax over it, and then dyeing the cloth. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original color. Often, the fabric is dyed once before it is batiked, allowing a complimentary color to show through the stamped or stenciled pattern. The fabric is then boiled to remove the wax. These processes are repeated to skillfully produce intricate patterns and wonderful bright colors creating designs with flowers, symbols, dragonflies, vines, animals and more.
This process makes every Balinese batik item a work of art!
